Downturn in the seismic industry

The industry has suffered the worst downturn in the 33 years I have been in the industry and and many boats cold stacked and people have been laid off in large numbers. Seismic companies were forced to lay off nearly 40-50% of their crew count as a result.

Oil rig counts have dropped dramatically compared to 4 years ago. Some rigs have been deemed being too expensive to run and was cheaper to decommission them rather than pay for keeping it in service. There is a break even point for outgoings versus incomings for each well.
